A representative payee is a substitute person or agency appointed to receive federal funds on behalf of a recipient who is unable to manage their own funds. Representative payees are most commonly appointed to manage Social Security funds, Veterans benefits, and pensions.
A representative payee's responsibilities include prudent management of benefits to pay for the current and foreseeable needs of the beneficiary, appropriately saving any remaining benefits, and keeping accurate, timely transaction records. Each issuing agency has its own rules for a representative payee to follow, and a representative payee must account to the agency for how funds are spent on behalf of a beneficiary.
As representative payee, CBFS is diligent in ensuring that benefits are administered and bills paid in a timely fashion and used appropriately and accounted for according to the rules and guidelines of the issuing agency.
